My computer had a heart attack last night and almost gave me one as well. I was in the middle of a dozen differnt projects when it just died.
Well actually I was having immense fun with a new astronomy programme I had just downloaded and was admiring the great graphics and features when it just died. I thought we had a black out but realised the lights were still on, it was only the computer that wasn't. The back of it was very hot and it was obvious the fan had stopped working. No amount of pleading or encouragement would get it going again so I just had to wait until mornign and hope for the best.
Tried it this morning and she booted up fine so all was not lost but at the same time I knew it required a visit to the local PC doctor. I am very lucky that I have found these great guys who are wizzes with all things computer. The diagnoses showed the power pack had a terminal illness and the only answer was an immediate transplant. Only problem was this computer is the only pre packaged one I have ever owned ( and never will again) and these companies get you every which way. $190 for a new power pack that costs $40 normally and a week to ship, forget it! So my magic man pulled a power pack from another computer did a few modifications and an hour and $40 later all is well, as you can see. I am sure I am not the only person in the worls who now has a computer held together with sticky tape !
It is sad in way that so many of us have become so reliant on these things. They are our friends and open the gateway to the world but at the same time when they go down we go into panic mode because we have so much stored in such a small space. I do regular backup to CD and DVD so my data is always preserved but when you run a lot of software, the idea of having to re install and set the whole thing up again is a nightmare. I use a lot of graphic programmes, as I do all of my own web site graphics as well as teaching aids and all of the graphics for our student manuals. SO I am very pleased that all is well again with my little Vulcan. All of my computers have had cellestial names, Celeste, Hermes, Titan and this one is Vulcan, also in reverance to the great Mr Spock.
Well now all is working I must get back to writing the july Cancer baby section and the July horoscopes for my website.
To Kitten and Olivia - lots of love and kissed.
To the rest of my children and grandies, I love you all.
And to my darling Eddie - You Know!
